Legal Module 1: Tennessee Workers' Compensation Legal System Overview
As with any state, Tennessee has its own unique rules and laws to handle workers' compensation claims. This module provides an overview of the workers' compensation system in Tennessee, presents the basic terminology regularly used in workers' compensation cases, and explains “who's who” in a typical claim. This module also discusses what makes an injury compensable, impairment ratings and how they work, and the benefits system under the Workers' Compensation System, including death benefits and penalties for wrongful denial of benefits.  

Legal Module 2: Tennessee Workers' Compensation Key Aspects
This module presents the claims procedure for employers and the workers' compensation carrier when an employee is injured. This module further discusses compensability determinations and payment of benefits, including a very useful timeline for payments to injured employees, calculation of those benefits, and termination procedures. Finally, this module addresses coverage issues, specifically the requirements to have workers' compensation insurance.  

Legal Module 3: Tennessee Workers' Compensation Affirmative Defenses for Employers and Idiopathic Injuries
Workers' Compensation Insurance was created to insure that liability for certain injuries at the workplace be placed with the individual or entity that is in the best position to prevent such injuries in the first place. With this in mind, employers will sometimes take the affirmative position that the injury is not one that was intended to be covered by Workers' Compensation. This module covers employee's willful misconduct, intentional self-inflicted injuries, willful failure to use safety precautions, intoxication, and statute of limitation defenses. Also discussed, are the factors used in determining whether a fall at the workplace is compensable. Case law examples are used to show different factors and applications used to help characterize a fall as compensable or non-compensable.  

Legal Module 4: Tennessee Workers' Compensation and the Medical Impairment Rating (MIR) Registry Program
The purpose of the MIR Registry is to establish a resource to resolve disputes about the degree of medical impairment ratings. This module gives an overview of the Registry, the layout for the typical process for obtaining a MIR, a discussion on the MIR report, and an in depth discussion of the evaluation process.
